I'm Maria, I like to draw, and I like plants.

I like to draw plants

and I like to plant the gardens I draw

(although it's not always possible).

My father taught me the importance of calling plants by their names; it's the first step to getting to know them (you can't care for what you don't love, and you can't love what you don't know).

My mother taught me the importance of constant presence for a being to grow strong and healthy (any being, whether it's a plant or a 33-year-old woman-child).

My brother taught me the importance of drawing with a confident, smooth line (you have to make mistakes with confidence).

My literature teacher taught me the importance of completing ideas and using fewer parentheses (but when each idea comes accompanied by an avalanche of so many others, it's hard not to include at least ONE additional thought inside those little fishbowls that are parentheses). ( <◉}}}><< )

Today I think I draw better than I write, which is why this page is more about photos than text.

I often feel like I have nothing to say, so I draw the things around me (they don't need explanation, you just have to look at them with interest).

Sometimes I paint because I feel overwhelmed

(with feelings, images, desires…)

but most of the time I draw because I feel that the things around me fill me up:

Fill, fill, fill, empty. Repeat.

And speaking of filling, it fills me with joy that you're interested enough in me and my work to read all this. Thank you for getting to know my desk, my notebooks, my materials, my treasures, my gardens, my drawings… my world.

As a thank you, I'm sharing some of my favorite songs to draw with. Enjoy :)
